Colby

There are six of us

And eight of us

And twenty-four of us

And all of these must eat.

A blizzard in our refrigerator

Milk and yogurt and apples

And hard salami and cheese

Munster and cheddar

No colby.

They don’t sell colby here.

I don’t know why.

Who knows why?

It is the market.

It is supply and demand.

Although I demand

It is not enough

And so

We do without

And must leave it at that.

It’s not so bad.

There are more basic things.

There are six of us

And eight of us

And twenty-four of us

And all of these must eat.
